As the military continues to expand its role from traditional battlefield threats of the cold war era to a more urban, police action activity where industrial chemicals are encountered, the mission of CBRN response teams is expanding from traditional Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) to include Toxic Industrial Chemicals/Toxic Industrial Materials (TICs/TIMs), agents of biological origin (ABO) and various radiological materials. The Dismounted Reconnaissance Sets, Kits and Outfits (DR SKO) initiative was established as an acquisition program to address these additional mission requirements. The DR SKO initiative includes CBRN detection and protection equipment tailored to support each Service's missions that require dismounted CBRN reconnaissance, WMD conformation or denial, and characterization of a hazardous material event or accident.

BANC3 provided Human Systems Integration (HSI) expertise in support of ongoing system development, and equipment design, as well as dedicated support for the identification of mission requirements, allocation of functional responsibilities, and the definition of user skill and ability requirements. BANC3's performance also included technical assistance and application of specific training to end users and customers.
